Priori Acute is the latest addition to the Priori family. It is the result of a series of experiments into three-dimensional letter form design inspired by 19th Century display and artistic printing types. However, instead of simply adding drop shadows or fake relief to create the illusion of depth, the designers at Jonathan Barnbrook’s studio took their cue from such diverse sources as the angles on the Stealth bomber and the visual conceit in the work of the Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher.
The resulting forms are a playful exhibit of incongruous perspectives and twisting shapes that fold into themselves tricking the eye to shift the plane. At first glance and at small sizes the effect is subtle and the original letter forms themselves remain intact, retaining the history of British early 20th century typography, which was an inspiration for the original Priori family. But when blown up, the individual Priori Acute characters become beautifully animated and work well in selective situations such as initial caps, short headlines or logo design.
As I mentioned a few days ago on twitter, I have been working with Geektool to really turn my mac’s desktop in to what I need it to be. I figured that since I had this brand new machine (read: my old one finally was replaced after 10 visits to the Genius Bar in under 3 years), I should make everything work the way I wanted it to while it was nice and clean.
I set out in this customization with a few goals in mind:
I wanted to be able to view the weather at a glance
I wanted to have the date/month visible
I wanted to have information from my iCal displayed
I wanted my dock to take a back seat in the visual hierarchy
A former antiques shop owner, San Franciscan Rebecca Bradley turned to interior design and became quite successful. Her sophisticated and classic style is timeless and comfortable. I love the Asian accents she has mixed with traditional pieces and OMG that kitchen is fantastic!

Engineers at Innowattech in Israel recently created a new type of road that generates electricity as vehicles pass over it! The supercharged surface is embedded with piezoelectric crystals, which transform kinetic energy from passing vehicles into an electrical current. With widespread adoption, the technology could feed energy back into the nation’s burgeoning electric vehicle grid, transforming congested roadways into a clean green source of energy.

Client: Sex og Sundhed
1 design briefing, teams of 2 people, 24 hours, maximum 2 proposals.
The brief was to make an appealing package for three condoms as a give away for danish non-profit organization Sex and Health. The target group was young people from 15-25 years of age. Combined with no sleep, thai food and lots of coffee this was what we made in the 24 hours.
This, our first proposal, is a handy package constructed so it opens from the right to left, revealing a simple humoristic statement when you take out a condom. The statements simply connecting condoms with having sex, and no more condoms meaning no more sex. The message should come across in eye level with the target group with out being patronizing or judgmental.”
When I first started learning how to use After Effects, I immediately thought of finding new ways to get visual and audio cues to interact. I am a firm believer that the more sense we can get to concentrate on the same stimulus, the greater the reaction will be.
This video for the Chemical Brothers does just that. Pay attention to the repetition of elements and how they tie in seamlessly with the audio.
A discussion today started on the idea of branding cereal with iTunes. The idea made a lot of sense to me, since there are a wide variety of ways available to marry physical items with the ethereal digital realm… The trick is not confusing your consumers in the process.
