07OctMedia Accountability

The news media needs to be held accountable for the things they air. I am tired of turning on a 24/7 “news” station and seeing a teaser for “How to Dress like Sarah Palin” or anything resembling a Hollywood tabloid. If a channel wants to present themselves as a news station, they should be required to announce when they are editorializing a story. During this election season, the news shows seem to be dealing less in fact than the entertainment shows, and sadly, a good percent of the American population does not care enough to remove the facts from the fiction.

Short and sweet, but it is three weeks running.

29SepIn a SEO world, does quality matter?

One of the biggest concerns in this “Web 2.51″ world is SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and for good reason. Your online identity needs to be easily accessible and prevalent across a wide range of categories for your business to thrive. A simple search of “SEO Salary” brings up an article that outlines the ranges of pay for someone who’s sole job is SEO optimization. The salary could range from $35,000 for simply building links between sites and up to $350,000 for a “Director of Search Marketing”. Obviously, the market feels the position is needed and worth a substantial income.

22SepJustin.tv – Return of the Fanboys

If you don’t remember, I had made mention to Justin.tv a while ago, and in bringing up that site I started remembering one of my favorite “lifecasters” (the cute term Justin.tv uses to describe people that sit infront of their webcam). Sadly, when I went back to check up on this person’s activities, I found that they seemed to have been banned from the site. This was suprising to me, seeing as the topics of conversation rarely strayed from that of Geekdom.

17SepMotivation

It seems like every time I sit down at my computer, I have to keep telling myself that I need to finish updating the content on my portfolio. Not only am I lacking in motivation with the portfolio side of things, but I keep failing to fill out the blog side of things. I will have these great trains of thought, and when I sit down to write, it all seems rather trite. Continue reading ‘Motivation’

26AugOn dreams…

I woke this morning, and I could not shake the dream I had last night. This is something really out-of-character for me, since I usually do not remember what I dream.  Even now, a few hours after waking up, I am losing most of the content… But man, it was a weird one. Continue reading ‘On dreams…’

24AugSurprise: A decent MySpace layout!

MySpace is sort of the bane of my existence. For some reason, all it fosters is flashing GIFs and music that plays on page load. Any sort of attempt to change the actual layout of the page to be usable and decent is an exercise in futility. My page, while nice, is a simple copy of someone else’s template… I had tried to make a unique layout, but figuring out all of the whacky element selectors was a waste of time.    Continue reading ‘Surprise: A decent MySpace layout!’

21AugA finger on the pulse of the internet

This has been a little thought that has been bugging me for a while now…  I spend pretty much all of my time plugged in to this web, a web that stretches world wide, and there are some “celebrities” who I have pretty much never heard of.

The most recent one to come to mind was iJustine.  All I know about her is that she has a station on justin.tv, and that is it. I have no idea why she is the 15th most followed person on Twitter. What did she do to become popular? Am I really missing out by not knowing people like her? Continue reading ‘A finger on the pulse of the internet’

11JulMarketing in the Future?

A discussion today started on the idea of branding cereal with iTunes.  The idea made a lot of sense to me, since there are a wide variety of ways available to marry physical items with the ethereal digital realm… The trick is not confusing your consumers in the process.
