I have been thinking of doing goetta stuffed mushrooms for a while now, and want to mix the goetta with a cheese so it will bind better inside the mushrooms. My only problem is I am not sure what cheese to use.. I was initially thinking a nice feta for the great flavor, but feta usually doesn’t melt well. I have tossed a few ideas in a poll, but they are limited because my cheese knowledge is not as vast as it should be.

What cheese would work well inside goetta stuffed mushrooms?

Recipe Help: Goetta stuffed mushrooms

I follow @Izzyman on twitter, because I lurv me some Matzo Ball soup on fridays. This week, they were asking for suggestions for sandwiches using goetta. There were three ideas I mentioned:

And then today, I see this come across my @ notifications:

I really hope that they try the Pastrami, goetta, havarti, horseradish, and cole slaw. No matter what they call it, it will be delicious!

Look ma! I made it!

If you are in Cincinnati and haven’t been to an OTRTweetup yet, then you are missing things that could only be described as “The Bee’s Knees”. Have you ever seen the knees of a bee? They are mind-blowing!

These meetups are a great time where you get to meet some of the most interesting and vivacious people in Cincinnati. To your left, you will see a thing to RSVP with. Click the appropriate button and it will generate the hoops you need to jump through (at last check, hoop count was holding steady at zero). While I am sure you are heartbroken to hear that I will not be able to make it, you should still go.

I have no idea where this greatness came from, but this is what I am thinking of using for my about section on my portfolio. My one hesitation is while I find it hilarious and endering, I don’t know if it will come across as me being quirky or me being completely unprofessional.

I am entering my 4th year in the Digital Design program at DAAP in the University of Cincinnati. When I am not shoulder-deep in school work, I spend my time either tinkering with computer hardware or dancing on the ceiling. And if ceiling dancing isn’t impressive enough, take a look at this resume.

Designing motion graphics, interactive websites, bicycle jousting, and user testing all make my day. Is your project ready to be added to that list?

Please leave some comments and let me know what you think… is it unique and catchy -or- sophomoric and base?

Do I take another gamble w/ my portfolio?

My wife and I were lucky enough to be gifted a 1/2 seasons worth of tickets to the Cincinnati Symphonic Orchestra. We really love going to these shows. Not only is dinner included in the ticket price, but it brings me back to my high school days, when I would wail away with some Holst on my baritone horn.

Sadly, tonight is the last night of our season. We would love to purchase tickets for next year, but they are kinda damn asspensive. I guess we are doomed to live the life of the rest of you common folk. At least I got to pretend like I was a fancy gentleman for a little while.

From what I can see on twitter, today seems to be the National Day of Silence. I used to participate in high school, and if I remember correctly it was a day where you would be silent to bring attention to those that have to live their life in silence for fear of repercussions. While the concept is nice, I always felt it was a little flawed. The people that really need to be reached by this movement are probably too close-minded to realize what is going on. The people that are indifferent won’t really care, and the people that understand what the day is trying to achieve are most likely already involved.

The other problem I have with the Day of Silence is that silence is apparently a very subjective term. Back when I was in high school, people wouldn’t talk, but they would sit there passing notes all day. It eventually got to the point where people would “participate” so they could have, in their minds, a day off from school. Now, on twitter, I am seeing people who in one tweet say they are participating in the day of silence then turn around and send out a bevy of their normal day-to-day tweets. I am sure Myspace and Facebook are the same way.

What really constitutes silence? Is it simply the act of not talking for a day? I am sure that for some people that is really difficult, but if the only change you are making for a day is not talking, yet still communicating, is the purpose of the day really getting through? If you are still writing notes, tweeting, sending texts, writing blogs, and doing everything you would normally do in a day, are you really doing anything different?

Maybe it is just because I was raised Roman Catholic, but I feel like there needs to be some sort of struggle and  sacrifice for something like the Day of Silence to have meaning. While the main goal is to bring attention to the silence some people have to live in, I feel that it should also remind the people participating of the difficulties others have to live through day-to-day. To me, silence means just that… silence. No communication.

What is silence?

I have a group of friends that I try to go out to dinner with once a week. Last summer we started going to Zips in Covington every Wednesday for their “Burger Madness” special. We could sit outside, eat burgers, drink beer, and shoot the shit. There wasn’t much more one could ask for in life.

Much to my chagrin, our weekly dinners were dubbed “Wednesday Friendsday”. While I can get behind alliteration as much as the next guy, there is something unholy with rhyming. It kinda bothers me, but that is neither here nor there.

As this tradition has grown, we have began venturing out to new eateries. This week was our second trip together to Gordo’s on Montgomery Rd. I think it is technically in Norwood (or Oakley? I can never remember where these arbitrary lines are drawn). Which ever subsection of Cincinnati this place is located, it has good food and booze and that is all that really matters.

It is big
I was in there like a surgeon

I had the Gordo burger, which has Boursin cheese, bacon, poblano, and onions. It is good. Great? no. Everyone liked their food, but we weren’t blown away by anything. Since this was our second time there, you can guess that the food is good enough to warrant a return trip. It isn’t a TTC caliber burger, but I would say it is better than the beloved (for reasons unbeknownst to me) Zips.

I think the highlight of the night was someone from the large group that was there hijacking the jukebox. For the 2.5 hours we were in Gordo’s we heard nothing but jambands. Whoever picked the music gets two giant thumbs up from me. They ran the gamut from Phish to Dead, WSP to YMSB.

I really don’t get this whole “tea party” thing that is going down tomorrow…

There is one happening here in Cincinnati. I don’t understand what they hope to accomplish. Will this mean we don’t have to pay the outrageous tea taxes any more? I for one hope so, because those stuffy Brits have had it coming….

Ohh, wait. It has nothing to do with unfair taxes. According to the Cincinnati Tea Party home (which is a horrible use of the title tag, BTdubs), the “tea party” is a protest on government spending. The first sentences on their site are

Most of us do things the right way. We go to school, get a job, work hard, raise a family, build a home. Our government takes an ever increasing share of the money we earned, and wastes it on every pet project under the sun.

If these people are so concerned about spending, where were they the past 8 years? It seems to me that the spending by GWB was all fine and good, but the second Obama stepped in to office there was this unacceptable spending that started. I wanted to give them some credit and hope that maybe I was just to cynical. They couldn’t really think that all of the horrible spending was caused by the current president. There had to be a balance of blame on past policy and spending, right? No such luck…

They have a link to suggested sign ideas. One of the first ones listed is “220 Years to Build the Republic, 1 Month to Destroy It”. Really? These people think that Obama has destroyed the country in a month. Wow. It is interesting that people are clamoring to mollify him when he had to step into the shitstorm that was the wake of the past 8 years.

If you couldn’t tell by now, I am not a huge fan of GWB and the way he handled the country. I don’t agree with the way Obama has handled things either, but I am not ready to throw him under a bus just yet.

Maybe I am resistant to the whole “Tea Party” thing because Fox News has been trumping these things up and is sponsoring a bunch of them. It just seems that this is put together by someone with a blatant agenda who wants to play off the fears of the uneducated (which, ironically is how the whole mortgage issue started.. playing the uneducated… hmm).

Meh, hope you enjoyed the ramble.

As you can tell from the new URL, I have moved my blog away from my portfolio. I thought it would be a good idea to brand the two separately. The blog is much less formal than I want my portfolio to be, and it only made sense to move this to a unique domain.

The fact that I am at a new url is not the main reason for needing your attention though… As you can see, I have a blogroll dedicated to Cincinnati bloggers. I know you want in, since more links = more gooder. If you are seeing this, you follow me on twitter so here is what you need to do:

  1. Send me either an @ or DM with the link to your blog
  2. Add http://www.awwdip.com to your blogroll (quid pro quo Clarice).
  3. That’s it.

Let’s get some linky goodness going on here.
