May, 2009 Archives

I came across this wordpress theme built especially for photoblogging, and I immediately wanted to start a photoblog just to use it. The theme is clean and modern and looks super easy to use.

AutoFocus is the work of Allan Cole, a designer/developer from NY. If you are going to run a photoblog, you need to check his theme out. If not.. make sure to check out the rest of this themes, as they are all top-notch.

I have no idea where this greatness came from, but this is what I am thinking of using for my about section on my portfolio. My one hesitation is while I find it hilarious and endering, I don’t know if it will come across as me being quirky or me being completely unprofessional.

I am entering my 4th year in the Digital Design program at DAAP in the University of Cincinnati. When I am not shoulder-deep in school work, I spend my time either tinkering with computer hardware or dancing on the ceiling. And if ceiling dancing isn’t impressive enough, take a look at this resume.

Designing motion graphics, interactive websites, bicycle jousting, and user testing all make my day. Is your project ready to be added to that list?

Please leave some comments and let me know what you think… is it unique and catchy -or- sophomoric and base?

Do I take another gamble w/ my portfolio?

I just read on Twitter that The Midwest Teen Sex Show has been picked up by Comedy Central for the 09-10 season! I have two words:

HOT SHIT!

The announcement from Comedy Central:

“Midwest Teen Sex Show”
“Midwest Teen Sex Show” is definitely not your parent’s sex education class. Based on the popular Web series of the same name, this weekly comedy show brings the discussion of sex to the forefront in an outrageous and comedic way. Every week, the show tackles a different topic (i.e. masturbation, one-night stands, lesbians) exploring it through a variety of sketches. Created by Nikol Hasler, Guy Clarke and Brittany Barber and executive produced by Principato-Young and Double Features’ Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher.

MTSS is one of my favorite online shows. It is nowhere near is “vile” as the name implies. The show is a modern take on sex-ed, addressing any and every topic in a way that is entertaining, informative, and engaging. They can describe it way better than I can:

Why a show on teen sexuality?

Teens and sex. It happens. Not every teen is having sex and not every teen is abstaining. We hope the Midwest Teen Sex Show will create a space for frank discussion of all things related to teen sexuality. Broadcast media shies away from any real exploration of the topic, and they forget that not all teens live in Orange County. So subscribe on iTunes, Miro, or your favorite RSS reader, download our latest episode, tell your friends, and let’s get it on! (Midwest style).

Is this sex education?

Sort of–we like to call it sex information. We’ll leave the formal education to classrooms and textbooks. Midwest Teen Sex Show is here to provide sex information in a clear and entertaining way. We won’t pretend to be experts, but hopefully a few of our own embarrassing experiences and insights will keep you out of trouble.

Are you promoting teen sex?

No! We’re promoting a discussion of teen sex.

One of my favorite episodes is the one on Fetishes. I was going to embed the episode, but something seems to be borken with the way Koldcast.tv handles things, so instead, you can head to Koldcast.tv to watch it.

Make sure to keep an eye out for The Midwest Teen Sex Show on Comedy Central. It will be a hoot(er).

Ohh Happy Day

The people over at The FancyPants Gangsters are running a contest to see who can come up with the best version of:

<Game> helped me get over my fear of <Thing>

The contest is running through May 23rd, and the prizes will increase as the number of entrants increase. Right now, the item up for grabs is a copy of the Guniess World Records: Gamer’s Edition. Once they get up to 10 entrants, they will add a second prize.

You can find the thread with all the entry details over on their forums. So make sure you sign up and enter… I feel bad when I win their contests solely because I am the only one to enter. I want to win because I am kick-ass.

While you are over there, you should probably subscribe to their podcasts. Like the title says – “Free stuff=More gooder”

Free Stuff = More Gooder!

Normally, I am the first one to jump on the “I hate spring” bandwagon. I have horrible allergies, and the only time of year when I am able to kinda breath through my nose is winter. If there is some form of vegetation alive, I am unable to breathe.

However, it is sometimes worth it.
