Asking which of these is more artful is like asking which is stinkier – poop or poopy.

All because of this video:

I was trying to figure out how they did this.. At first I thought it was a camera on a dolly, and they shot each person individually then composite them all together. But after watching it a few times, I realized that wasn’t it… The time of each person stayed constant regardless of the radial position of the camera. I am not sure how this was done (and if I took the time to look online, I could probably find the “making of” video). Maybe they had a ring of cameras, a la bullet time in The Matrix, and then took all the cameras out in post.

Thoughts?

My head exploded

As you may remember, a while back I posted a shopping list for the MythTV system I was revamping. After almost two full weeks of tweaking, I finally have the full system built. It was an adventure, to say the least. Thankfully my wife was very understanding… I know she was getting frustrated watching me tinker with all these various machines without results for a while.

What is MythTV?

In short, MythTv is an open-source DVR system built for linux systems, with the ability it interface with Mac and Windows systems. It is a system that manages recorded television, movies, music, photos, and much more (with the use of additional plug-ins). A MythTV system will consist of at least two parts, a backend and a frontend. The backend is the server of the operation; it stores all the content, manages recordings, and makes everything go. The frontend is the part that you interact with; it displays lists of recordings & movies and plays back the content.

The Beginnings

When I first started messing around with MythTV, I was using my wife’s old pc tower. This was a computer put together in 2002, and when it had Windows on it, it would struggle to just start up. After moving all of her old content off the computer, I did a clean install of Ubuntu, as I had read it was the easiest Linux distro to get working with MythTV. I was far from succesful when I tried to install MythTV as a seperate package.. After some more research I decided to give Mythbuntu a try, since it is a special version of Ubuntu compiled specifically for MythTV use.

My wife and I were lucky enough to be given a set of tickets to the Cincinnati Symphonic Orchestra for this past season from a “long lost” relative she had here in Cincinnati. The relative had moved to the Carolinas and had no use for the tickets they had already purchased.

If you have never been to the symphony hall, you need to take in a show there. Not only is the orchestra excellent, but the building has amazing architecture.

A classy night out

This is an old clip, but David Grisman is still touring (now in a quintet). Great music.. I usually throw a few of their shows in shuffle when I need to sit down and crank through some work.

If you are in Cincinnati and haven’t been to an OTRTweetup yet, then you are missing things that could only be described as “The Bee’s Knees”. Have you ever seen the knees of a bee? They are mind-blowing!

These meetups are a great time where you get to meet some of the most interesting and vivacious people in Cincinnati. To your left, you will see a thing to RSVP with. Click the appropriate button and it will generate the hoops you need to jump through (at last check, hoop count was holding steady at zero). While I am sure you are heartbroken to hear that I will not be able to make it, you should still go.

What can really be said about the Jimmy Fallon show? It is damn painful to watch… there are 3 things that make the show even remotely tolerable:

  1. The Legendary Roots Crew as the house band
  2. He gives out tons of geek love (not the “sitting at home along on a friday night” type)
  3. Slow Jam the News

Every now and then, Jimmy will “Slow Jam the News”, and it is amazing! If that is all they did and released them as webisode, I would gladly pay for that content.

And thats how you redeem a show

I found Keller Williams by accident… One of my friends had played some Ben Kweller for me, and I was trying to find some of his music on the etree archives. I couldn’t remember the exact name, and when I saw Keller Williams I thought that was it. Luckily for me, Keller is way better than Ben Kweller.

Turns out, my wife’s family is friends with his parents. I have never met Keller himself, but I have met his parents on more than one occasion. Very nice people, even if his father thinks some of his music is rubbish…

Apparently times are tough for everyone in Team Fortress 2. The Scout was seen selling the Slap Chop, and now the Heavy has started selling Kaboom! I am waiting for the Pyro to sell Jimmy Dean Smoked Sausages
