The Living Calendar allows people to read the weeks, the months, the holidays, and the time, all at once and all in a glance. A large hand shows the current day, and the current month, thus doing a complete turn during 365 days. A little hand shows the current day of week, and the current hour, and accordingly does a complete turn for 7 days. Moreover, the calendar marks the date of public holidays, religious events and momentous days.

“The idea was to create as unique a calendar so that the process of its presenting would become an outstanding event. Alongside with this, it was important to expose the idea of “energy”, as it is predetermined by the name and logo of the company. Each page is a month and it looks like a comb made of matches that correspond to the days. The matches are real and the construction of the calendar is absolutely safe.”

These milk cartons by design studio Raw-Edges demonstrate an interesting marriage of form and function. Percentages of fat in the milk can be identified visually by the form of the packaging, in addition to the usual information. The color palette remains the same on all three cartons, giving them a very unified look. There’s also a modern simplicity at work with the spareness and color choice. Besides denoting the fat percentage, the indented forms on the packaging also serve as grips. This is the kind of chic milk carton you’d likely find in Patrick Bateman’s fridge.

A former antiques shop owner, San Franciscan Rebecca Bradley turned to interior design and became quite successful. Her sophisticated and classic style is timeless and comfortable. I love the Asian accents she has mixed with traditional pieces and OMG that kitchen is fantastic!

energyen-roads-diag
Engineers at Innowattech in Israel recently created a new type of road that generates electricity as vehicles pass over it! The supercharged surface is embedded with piezoelectric crystals, which transform kinetic energy from passing vehicles into an electrical current. With widespread adoption, the technology could feed energy back into the nation’s burgeoning electric vehicle grid, transforming congested roadways into a clean green source of energy.

3condoms_23condoms_4

Young Creative Circle, design competition, shortlist
Client: Sex og Sundhed

1 design briefing, teams of 2 people, 24 hours, maximum 2 proposals.

The brief was to make an appealing package for three condoms as a give away for danish non-profit organization Sex and Health. The target group was young people from 15-25 years of age. Combined with no sleep, thai food and lots of coffee this was what we made in the 24 hours.

This, our first proposal, is a handy package constructed so it opens from the right to left, revealing a simple humoristic statement when you take out a condom. The statements simply connecting condoms with having sex, and no more condoms meaning no more sex. The message should come across in eye level with the target group with out being patronizing or judgmental.”

As I mentioned on Twitter a few days ago, I had forgotten to cancel a subscription to World of  Warcraft. I hopped on to the Blizzard account management site, and started filling out the forms necessary to stop the recurring charges to my credit card.

One of the things that I always liked about Blizzard was that they never took themselves too seriously. Take a look at what my leaving did to some peons:

First Peon

Second Peon

Extra geeky moment:

Apparently a nerf to WoTF was such a popular reason for quitting (or QQing if you will) that they had to add it to the drop-down box:

They Don’t Make Quitting Easy

This was the year where Sara and I went back to NYC to spend Thanksgiving with my side of the family. We got tickets to the Grandstands of the Thanksgiving Day Parade again (thanks dad) and I managed to get some decent pictures. I managed to keep my shutterbug self under control, but I do wish I took more pics around the city in general.

Below are a few selected photos, and the full set can be viewed at my Flickr photostream.

(Yes, that is Rick Astley. I was excited and a little scared)
